It’s a Bird…It’s a Plane…

Monday, December 13th, 2010

It was January, 2003. Warner Brothers officially announced that Christopher Nolan would direct a reboot of the Batman franchise. Comic book fans around the world held their breath in anticipation. Many assumed that the horrible acting and corny story lines of Batman and Robin put the final nail in the coffin of the once popular franchise, but to everyone’s surprise, Nolan was planning on breathing new life into the popular story of Bruce Wayne and his dark alter ego—the Batman. The cartoon-ready punch sound effects and larger than life view of Gotham City were stripped down to reveal normal life in a careworn city. The vision of Nolan was then combined with a well written script from David S. Goyer and a memorable performance from Christopher Bale. This film alone helped usher in the reemergence of the Superhero film.

Your favorite characters were now able to have a chance on the big screen. Instead of relying on the cartoons and comic books that we all speedily looked through as children, studios combined these fictional characters with real life scenarios and believable story lines that not only helped them soar at the box office, but even achieve critical acclaim—a first for Superhero films. Not only does your favorite character now have a chance at making it in Hollywood, but your favorite actor might also be interested in playing the layers that are found within the pages of these scripts.

2011 is shaping up to be a great year for Superhero fans. The Green Lantern, Green Hornet, Thor, Transformers 3 and many other films are hoping to thrill audiences and enjoy high numbers at the box office in the coming year. With Nolan slowly giving out small details about the third Batman film in the new series, we can only hope that Bruce Wayne continues to save the city of Gotham while protecting the image of the Superhero!

You don’t need the classic moves to dress like your favorite character. Join with other fans and check out our vast selection of comic book hero t-shirts. Superhero powers are not included!

Holiday Gift Ideas 2010

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

It’s that time of year again…the holidays! The cold weather keeps us cooped up inside, together with friends, family and coworkers. It’s that gift giving and receiving time of year, and you probably feel the pressure to maintain your record of gift giving perfection. You are once again faced with that dilemma to find the perfect gift for each and every person on your list. With so many friends and family, each with their own tastes and sensibilities, is there really any fool proof way to know exactly what the perfect gift idea is for everyone?

THERE IS NOW! 2Bhip is here to help with your search to find the coolest gift ideas out there. We have the hottest licenses and products for all ages, and can even help Grandpa keep up with the ever changing trends. We have something undeniably cool for everyone. As our gift to you, we’ll give you plenty of ideas for the holiday season, and faithfully supply everything you need to make this the most memorable holiday yet!

Babies:

There’s a good chance somebody is celebrating their first holiday this year. Though babies might not quite understand anything more than the fact that wrapping paper is fun, there’s no better time to introduce them to pop culture or your favorite band. Now you have the chance to win some serious brownie points with mom and dad by making their baby the coolest on the block. We offer a huge selection of licensed baby shirts, ranging from classic rock bands to cartoons. Some popular styles include Star Trek uniforms and DC Comics’ own Justice League, such as Superman and Batman. For older children, we also offer toddler t-shirts, featuring the best classic music bands. Help dress up that kid and watch mom and dad melt like butter.

Teen Girls:

Girls are constantly searching for the newest styles and demand only the coolest products. They may want the latest trends that “everyone is wearing” or they may possess the creative ability to steer in the opposite direction. As they strive to establish their individuality, teenagers develop tastes and views that can differ wildly from each other, making it hard to find a gift that works for everyone. One brand that teen girls have agreed on universally is Hello Kitty. Undeniable cute and hip, we stock a great variety of Hello Kitty gifts, from juniors t-shirts to tote bags, sleek ID cases, wallets and scarves. If Hello Kitty doesn’t do it for them, they may also like our new animal laplander hats. Laplanders are the popular pilot style hats that are now back in style. They are stylish and warm so they are the perfect gift that moms and daughters can actually agree on! Girls like cute things, it’s a fact. You can’t go wrong with an animal laplander hat.

Teen Boys:

Teen boys are on the opposite end of the spectrum when it comes to fashion. Instead of embracing cuteness, they may want something to express their inner musician. Music is incredibly important to teenagers, and their favorite bands are a vital part of their identity. While adults are often emotionally moved by music, teens tend to like literally being moved physically by music. It seems that they sometimes seek out loud rock bands that keep their parents up at night. We have a massive selection of classic rock and metal band t-shirts featuring all the biggest, coolest names in music, as well as ever-popular wallet chains and hats. Teen boys take their music very seriously, and with big name options of loud and aggressive bands such as Metallica and AC/DC, you can’t go wrong.

Adult Males:

Now to the working class, the businessman, construction worker or football fan. The holidays are perhaps the most stressful time of year for this group, especially for those with children. They’re working hard to bring home that paycheck only to turn it into that perfect gift at the holidays. Why not reminisce about the good old days, when the holidays were all about getting the newest Nerf ball or Supersoaker and when cereal had a ridiculously high sugar content. You can now give a nostalgic gift and watch that guy transform into a kid again. We have a great selection of 80s t-shirts. TV shows and movies from their childhood; cartoons and retro video games too. Don’t forget that shameless gamer who knows his roots. If you can’t figure out which T-shirt he’d like, there are other options available. Everyone knows the best way into a grown man’s heart…a flask! A flask just might be the perfect gift for the man who needs a tasty beverage at his fingertips. We also stock stainless steel tankards in a variety of cool celtic designs. What a classic commemorative gift idea!

All you need to know is that you can’t go wrong with Junk Food brand t-shirts, one of the big names in cool women’s fashion. These T-shirts have a soft, uber-comfortable feel and feature great retro designs. They come in adult sizes and also the ever-popular juniors style, which are form fitting and fashionable. Veterans Day

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

According to the Department of Veterans Affairs many Americans confuse Veterans Day with Memorial Day.  Do you know why we celebrate veterans dayVeterans Day?  In honor of Veterans Day, we’d like to commemorate all of the nations brave soldiers.  For those of you that aren’t sure why we celebrate Veterans Day, a  recap.

Veterans Day, formerly known as Armistice Day, was originally set as a U.S. legal holiday to honor the end of World War I which officially took place on November 11, 1918.  In 1938 legislation passed that November 11th was dedicated to the cause of world peace and to thereafter celebrated as Armistice Day honoring World War I veterans.

In 1954, after having been through World War II and the Korean War, the veterans service organizations urged the 83rd U.S congress to amend the act of 1938 by striking out the word “Armistice” and replacing it with “Veterans”.  On the approval of this legislation on June 1, 1954, November 11th was to be a day to honor American veterans of all wars.

So what’s the difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day?  Memorial Day honors service members that have died in service of their country or as a result of injuries incurred through service.  Deceased veterans area also honored on Veterans Day but the holiday is set aside to thanks and honor veterans who served honorably in the military either during wartime or in peacetime.

How do you honor our America’s veterans?  This year you could wear your honor across your chest with a military t-shirt or around your waist with an American Flag belt buckle for everyone to see.  Go big or go home right?  Think about how America’s brave soldiers fought for our country so that we have the freedom we have today.  Pay tribute this year like you always wished you had.

Bruce Lee Biopic: Bruce Lee, My Brother

Friday, October 29th, 2010

Bruce Lee MovieBruce Lee is one of those cult figures who’s many different things to many different people. For some, he’s a standout martial artist. His discipline and skill in martial arts combat is historically unparalleled and his techniques gave rise to the distinctive Jeet Kune Do fighting style. For others, he’s better known as the iconic star of martial arts films like Way Of The Dragon and Enter The Dragon, in which he displayed his famous Jeet Kune Do fighting style in perfect form on the silver screen. And for many others, he is best known for the legends surrounding him; the infamous One Inch Punch (a punch delivered literally from an inch away) is said to have sent a man who outweighed him by almost one hundred pounds flying through the air, landing fifteen feet away. Let’s not forget the tales of thumbs-only pushups, side-kicking three hundred pound heavy bags to the ceiling, and catching rice thrown into the air with chopsticks.

Bruce Lee’s martial arts skill is without a doubt legendary and unprecedented, but with a private life of martial arts merged with a public life of film acting it’s hard to get a feel for just who Bruce Lee was; not as just a martial artist, but as a man. With November’s (projected release) new Bruce Lee biopic “Bruce Lee, My Brother” coming out, we’ll get a look at just that.

As the title implies, the film is recounted by his surviving brother Robert Lee and tells of Bruce Lee’s life as a youth, when he was first breaking into film making as a child and developing his martial arts style on the street, not the studio. While it remains to be seen if relative newcomer Aarif Lee will be able to effectively play such a legendary figure, the film promises conceptually to be everything Bruce Lee fans have searched for. With so many conflicting accounts of Bruce Lee’s life and prowess, to hear his history straight from his own brother is a fantastic opportunity. Still unrivaled and unmatched, there’s never been a better time to celebrate the “Genesis of the Dragon”. We have great Bruce Lee t-shirts cool enough to pop off a few roundhouses in, and hope to continue to honor Lee’s legacy as the biopic’s release draws closer.

Fall TV – I’ve Missed You

Friday, September 24th, 2010
Do your thumbs quiver with anticipation and you don’t know why? Has your television set been crying out to you for attention in the lonely hours of the night? It must be that time of year again, when your favorite tv shows renew for brand new seasons! Midway through September, we are already in the midst of a great lineup of new episode launches that’ll let you renew the crater in your couch in no time. We have great tv show tees to celebrate the new seasons of:
We’re already an episode into Season Six, which began 9/16. One of the funniest, most edgy comedies in recent history, season six promises to take the show even further than before. A Halloween episode will even acknowledge the real-life pregnancy of Kaitlin Olson (Dee Reynolds). Like me, I know you’re awaiting the return of Greenman and the possible return of the master of Karate himself, Dayman (And did you know The Nightman Cometh was actually performed onstage last year by the show’s actors, as a goodwill gesture for the fans? I would’ve loved to see it!)
Season Four of Big Bang Theory, promising new problems for our favorite theoretical physicists to solve. Watched and loved by millions of viewers, the new season (aired Sept 23) throws a plot twist at us early when Sheldon goes on his first-ever date, and in the next episode attempts to achieve biological immortality. How’s that for a season opener? Big Bang Theory is one to watch: intelligent and always surprising. Big Bang provides some of our most popular tv show t-shirts, which may soon take “Bazinga” all the way into the dictionary. (If it happened to “d’oh”, it can happen to “bazinga”!)
Eastbound And Down
Don’t like Big Bang Theory? Then tune into Eastbound And Down’s second season (Sept 23) and watch as Kenny Powers tries to swing for the fences and become a household name again. The series has remarkable production value, with the new Easbound and Downseason allegedly shot to look and feel just like a feature film. After an early look, Vice Magazine said “it’s worthy of the original and is its own different, more somber beast”. Sounds like crude former sports hero Kenny Powers is back in true form for fans of this new cult hit.
Family Guy
This is just like that other time Family Guy had another season! This time though, it’s the 9th (airing Sept 26th) and it promises more of what you love about Family Guy; pop culture references, edgy responses to current events, and evil baby geniuses. Will we get a response to Return of the Jedi like the Blue Harvest and Something Something Somethifamily guyng Dark Side specials? If not, it’s still guaranteed to keep us laughing and watching, as Family Guy shows no signs of slowing down.
And for that matter, did you know The Simpsons is coming back on the same channel, same day, with it’s 22nd season? The longest running cartoon show in history, The Simpsons has been around for so long for good reason, as it remains funny and relevant today to an audience of millions, and still doesn’t seem close to running out of ideas. As the projected guest star for this season, Russell Brand, said “Once you’ve gone yellow, you’ve made it”. Also look for guest voices by Hugh Laurie (House) and Ricky Gervais (The Office UK), alongside countless others.

These are only the big ones, keep an eye out for the new seasons of House M.D., Dexter, and The Office this month, as well as the return of South Park in early October. You have a long road ahead of you, with thumb cramps and eye strain looming in your near future. Luckily for us, our job is simple: provide the coolest tv show shirts out there to let you show your love and remind everyone else to tune in each week. Now dust off that tv set, it missed you! Put new batteries in the remote, configure the TiVo, and wait, but luckily not for long.

Movies: Next Generation

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010
“What’s your favorite movie?”
is a question everyone can answer, and everyone will answer passionately. Film sees radical changes in technology and style; every decade of film has it’s own identity and has a different feel from the ones before and after it. But no matter where you came from, film has an undeniable impact on our culture, and it’s only natural to show the love. We have movie t shirts for all your favorites, old and new alike. We have a soft spot for the classic brat pack, Marty McFly, and the best of George Lucas’ films and don our 80s movie tees with pride, but all generations had movies to be just as passionate about. In fact, Citizen Kane is considered critically to be one of the best films ever made, and that came out in 1941, long before we were even born!
Did you know that movie theaters have been around for almost one hundred years? Way back then, it was a far simpler time. Moving pictures movie theaterwere spectacles, not yet evolved enough to tell a real story, but more than enough to captivate a culture. Back then, movies were only a few minutes in length, with choppy frame rates and blurry shots, and we didn’t complain! We walked a mile in the snow with no shoes to the five cent theater, and they didn’t even have air conditioning! Naturally though, theaters have grown a lot since then.  Now, the first big trip to the movie theater is a childhood memory we can all cherish. Remember that first time you saw Star Wars as a kid and the Star Destroyer made it’s slow crawl over the audience, accompanied by a massive mechanical roar that echoed through the room? Remember the next five times you saw Star Wars after that? It’s a rhetorical question: you’ll never forget.
A far cry from our childhoods, today we have the option to sit down in a body-hugging plush seat, recline it back, put a massive sugary soft drink in the arm rest and watch our favorite actors do their thing on a 40 foot screen in full HD and 3D while looking almost as good as reality. We have theaters with moving seats that weave and wobble along with the action, and massive screens that telescope across the ceiling, surrounding the viewer with an image on all sides. We’ve even moved past 3-D and have seen the introduction of “4-D” cinemas, which spray water, move seats, blow jets of wind, and more, all to immerse the next generation in the world of movies even more than the last. And if you don’t feel like going out and you feel like the magic is finally gone, with Video On Demand services now you don’t even need to leave the couch. Pop on your favorite movie t-shirt, slide the DVD in, and turn your own house into a theater to envy!

Dr. Who

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010
Doctor Who dates back all the way to 1963 and is still running to this day, making it the longest-running science fiction show in the world. It stars doctor whothe titular Doctor Who, a genius alien “Time Lord” who commands the time machine TARDIS, which takes the iconic form of a 1950s London police box. TARDIS randomly deposits the good doctor in different locations in time and space, wherever there is a problem only he can solve. With over 700 episodes and counting, the Doctor has been challenged by every situation you can think of, from bizarre aliens to rival Time Lords, and has even come back from the dead ten times!
That’s right, the Doctor can regenerate upon death, coming back with a new body and personality. Dr. Who is the time travel enthusiast’s answer to the James Bond series, with eleven actors each putting their own unique spin on the character. Fans will argue until the end of the series (or the end of time, whichever comes first) on which Doctor’s adventures were the best.
Tom Baker, the Fourth Doctor, continues to be the most iconic; he had the longest run on the tv series and his episodes were the ones most frequently broadcast overseas. His neurotic streak, including an excessively big scarf and a coat packed with jelly beans, remains the definitive version of the Doc to many old school fans. Still, many argue that 2005′s debut of David Tennant, the Tenth Doctor, was the start of the series’ best episodes, perfectly mixing modern CGI and editing with the classical intelligence of the old series. And of course, everyone else has their own favorites. If you’re a fan, who’s your favorite Doctor?
Even if you’re new to the series and Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor is the only one you know, we still have plenty of ways to show the love. Even if you can’t pick a favorite Doc, we have great Doctor Who t shirts featuring all the great recurring symbols of the series. The Doctor may change, but the TARDIS is recognizable the world over. And who can forget those lovable exterminators of all life in the universe, the Daleks? Their robot suit is an essential cultural icon, with a 2008 survey revealing that 9/10 British children can identify a Dalek. With a cool Dr. Who Dalek T Shirt, you can prove that you can too!

Self Made Millionaire, Jeff Dunham

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010
jeff dunhamJeff Dunham is one of the most-viewed and most popular comedians of all time, dominating sites like Youtube and putting phrases like “Silence, I keel you!” and “on a steeeek” into the pop culture vernacular for years to come. Jeff Dunham T shirts are flying off the shelves, and he even had his own self-named tv show! If you live under a rock with no cable hookup and you missed his comedy specials, and somehow missed him online (his debut of Achmed is in the Top 10 most viewed Youtube videos, with over 350 million hits!), there’s one thing about him that makes these accomplishments all the more incredible:
He’s a ventriloquist.
That’s right. Reviving an art that most thought to be long-dead, including many of the networks that wound up syndicating him worldwide, Jeff Dunham has become a self made millionaire by letting nobody convince him that the hobby he loves wouldn’t succeed. On the strength of his hilarious characters and his expertise of the form, he’s reached a level of success and popularity no fellow ventriloquist has ever seen. While his clean-cut image appeals to families, his act is edgy and offensive enough to satisfy any fan of modern comedy, and his characters continue to be contemporary and relevant. His most popular include:
Walter: A retired old man, Walter is discontented and sarcastic to a hilarious degree. Married for forty-six years, Walter claims the happiest moment of his life was “forty-seven years ago”. He’s often used to read and mock letters from the audience, and was one of Dunham’s original puppets, appearing in every one of his tv specials.
Peanut: A hyperactive, spastic purple puppet, Peanut often torments both the other characters and Jeff directly, even using a tiny Jeff puppet to mock him. A fan favorite and easily the most unusual of Dunham’s characters, he asked, after Dunham claimed to have never done drugs, “then how the hell did you come up with me”? Peanut was also one of his original puppets, another fixture of every one of his tv specials.
Achmed The Dead Terrorist: The newest addition, Achmed is a skeletal corpse of an incompetent suicide bomber used to satirize the terrorism issue. He suffers from “premature detonation”, and became the breakthrough star of Dunham’s act, propelling it to unheard-of levels of popularity. A very difficult character to make funny in such sensitive times, Jeff Dunham had the skill and professionalism needed to make it succeed. Now Achmed The Dead Terrorist T Shirts fly off the shelves and everyone knows that famous line, “I KEEL YOU!”.
There are many more, usually up to seven different characters in one act, from a bumbling superhero to a smooth “Player In the Management Profession”. With such a wide variety, there’s a character for everyone to share a laugh with. We have Jeff Dunham t-shirts featuring the most popular characters and lines, and will continue to follow Jeff as he proves that ventriloquism, unlike Achmed, will never die.

Sonic vs. Mario

Friday, August 6th, 2010
sonic the hedgehog and super mario bros.In one corner we have Nintendo’s Mario, a portly plumber hailing from the Mushroom Kingdom. His iron hard hands can bust right through bricks, and tales have been told of his legendary immune system, allowing the man to derive superhuman abilities from extremely sketchy mushrooms that would surely put even the best wilderness survivalist in a hospital bed for weeks. His innocent blue eyes conceal a long, difficult past fighting everything evil has to offer, from the darkest subterranean dungeons all the way into the furthest reaches of space. A super star athlete, Mario is proficient in every major sport, and has a jump height that blows away that of even the greatest Olympians. Depending on who you ask, he is either the ultimate alpha male or the cruel and ruthless face of years of turtle oppression. But even so, we all know Mario is the quintessential classic warrior, driven by love and fighting for the affections of a fair maiden. Mario’s dominance among his peers is without equal, and his popularity from over two hundred video game appearances knows no limits. Are you pro-Mario? Don your Mario t-shirt like a superstar and support this humble union worker’s proud legacy.
In the other corner we have SEGA’s own Sonic The Hedgehog, a blue hedgehog with an attitude that can break the sound barrier. Facing the mass robotization of all his fellow animal friends, Sonic smashed, bashed, and dashed his way into the history books by overthrowing Dr. Robotnik’s evil empire time and time again in over fifty game appearances and counting. The lean, mean answer to Mario, Sonic The Hedgehog sets his sights on saving his world from robotic oppression and collecting every piece of fine jewelry and rare metal he can get his shaking, twitching hands on. Are you a born Sonic fan? Wear your Sonic The Hedgehog t-shirt proudly and get ready to run circles around your competition.
But seriously, what gets a plumber and a hedgehog together in the same ring? This rivalry started way back in the early 90s, when SEGA debuted the Genesis to challenge Nintendo’s Super Nintendo, the industry’s top game console. Speeding onto the scene with the motto “Genesis Does What Nintendon’t”, SEGA used Sonic’s Generation X attitude and the game’s groundbreaking graphics to start a rivalry with Nintendo’s MVP that inspires debate to this day. Mario would go on to sell more games and Nintendo would ultimately overpower SEGA in the console war, but both characters leave behind a massive legacy of video games, cartoons, clothes, comics, toys, and more for our mutual entertainment pleasure! Both characters are some of the most identifiable characters in the world, and luckily for all of us the two have since resolved their differences, with SEGA now producing Sonic video games for Nintendo’s consoles and both with new, hotly anticipated games on the horizon. Everybody wins!
